The Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program, which provides uniform standards for chemical manufacturers to ensure facility safety, expired in July of 2023 due to inaction by the Senate.
While the Senate has failed to pass a CFATS extension, we are optimistic this is a temporary halt on the CFATS program.
SOCMA strongly recommends that all SOCMA members with a facility regulated by the Department of Homeland Security in the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program continue to maintain compliance with the security regulations and measures.

SOCMA, along with a group of other organizations, urged the Speaker of the House and other Congressional Leadership to aid in the two-year re-authorization of CFATS.
In the wake of the CFATS lapse, DHS has pointed individuals ChemLock’s voluntary resources that are still available during the lapse of the program.
SOCMA, along with a coalition of other associations, sent a letter to Senate Leadership urging them to consider including the CFATS Program as a part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Fiscal Year 2024.
