Recognizing Safety Culture in the Specialty Chemical Industry

In 2023, SOCMA launched its Safety Emphasis Initiative that delivered virtual programming and resources to support EHS and operations teams and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to safety in the specialty chemical industry.

As a continuation of SOCMA’s Safety Emphasis Initiative, we are proud to unveil our updated Safety Recognition Program. This program highlights best practice sharing as a key in the safety culture of SOCMA members, and offers opportunities to showcase and highlight year-round safety efforts in four key areas:

Process Safety
Emergency Planning & Response
Stakeholder Engagement & Communications
Heat Illness

“Nothing unites the specialty & batch chemical sector more than its safety-first mindset. This is what binds us together and pushes our member companies forward with their employees, community stakeholders and customers,” said Jennifer Abril, President & CEO at SOCMA.

“We want to reflect that priority by recognizing the positive stewardship our members exhibit when it comes to continuously building and improving our industry’s safety culture.”

Requirements:

SOCMA Member in good standing.
Active participation in ChemStewards or an equivalent EHS&S program.
Facility cannot have any of the following since January 2021:
- Any issued and/or potential OSHA violations (i.e., in discussion or negotiation phase)
- Any significant OSHA recordables (i.e., fatalities)

Criteria:

Answers will be weighted based on Yes/No selection
Open-ended responses will be used to verify yes/no questions and detail best practices.
One (1) application per company facility can be submitted.

Recipients of the 2024 Safety Recognition program will be honored at the SOCMA Summit Dinner on October 29th in Charleston, SC.

September 16, 2024	Announce Recipients
October 29, 2024	Recognition Dinner in Charleston, SC
